Opening Langtons just before Covid-19 hit was not easy, but it has been so worth it. Although I trained in Catering and Hotel Management in my teenage years, the majority of my cooking experience has been gained from my domestic kitchen which is something I am very proud of. I secretly love to collect old cookbooks, particularly ones owned by my grandmother, in order to find inspiration for new, yet classic, recipes. I also take a keen interest in history and absolutely love a good castle to get lost in.

What do you do in your spare time? I am a bit of a home bird so I like to spend time relaxing at home with my cats. Although I do not have a lot of time to myself since starting my business, I try my best to explore historical places of interest and catch up with the latest cinema and theatre productions.

Name something on your bucket list. Somewhere I have always wanted to visit is Pompeii, and why not make it part of a road trip around Italy!

What is your favourite thing to eat? Hmm…Perhaps everything that I shouldn’t!!

What do you prefer-tea or coffee? In my opinion, Earl Grey all the way! Although I would never say no to a rich Colombian Coffee…

Jemima

My name is Jemima and I helped to open Langtons back in March 2020 with my mum, Hannah. Despite studying for a degree in English Literature, I am not much of a reader, but I absolutely love to draw and am also a massive foodie! I am always up for a chat with our amazing customers and love to keep up to date with the village events.

What do you do in your spare time? I am not hugely outgoing, although I do like to spend my free time with friends and family. You will most likely find me curled up on the sofa with a hot chocolate re-watching my favourite TV shows.

Name something on your bucket list. You may think I’m crazy, but I have always wanted to do a sky dive!

What is your favourite thing to eat? You cannot beat a classic yet delicious Spaghetti Bolognese.

Do you prefer sweet or savoury? As much as I love a nice chocolatey pud, I definitely gravitate toward savoury—particularly cheesy—treats.

Humble Beginnings

Our business was founded in 2018 quite literally from Hannah’s kitchen table in Tunbridge Wells. Hannah, who has over 25 years of both professional and domestic cooking experience, started out providing a small scale catering service for offices and private settings and through word of mouth, this quickly expanded to include ready prepared home cooked meals and cakes for families and individuals.

Hannah found that her clients had several things in common; they were time poor and found cooking from scratch hard to fit in around their busy schedules. Many people also had a limited understanding of basic cooking skills to really be able to make their food money go further by advance planning and batch cooking and that’s when the ‘what if?’ moment happened and we found and opened our little shop.

What if there was a little village store shop that stocked high quality, hand selected organic essential cook’s ingredients and dry goods, complimented with fresh homemade bakery products, frozen homecooked meals and seasonal products?

What if the services extended to an online store that offered local delivery?

What if I could pick up recipe cards in store and access online and one to one cooking tips and basic cooking skills to be more confident in the kitchen, to budget better and waste less food?

What if indeed.
